I own a lot of lenses for my Nikon DSLRs. Considering the affordable price I really didn't expect much from this lens. I am very pleasantly surprised. Extremely sharp. Honestly.

Please Note: The laws of physics dictate that focusing is extremely sharp in a lens this long. Focus lightly and patiently. Also, you may need to add some weight to the front of the lens to offset the weight of your camera - I did. An extremely stable tripod is a complete necessity. None of my aluminum tripods were good enough. I have one old really massive wooden tripod which works far better. Wood provides much better dampening than aluminum in tripods.

But all of these criticisms are the same for any super telephoto lens. I recommend this lens highly.

The Opteka 650-2600mm (really a 650-1300mm with 2x teleconverter) is terrific. I have a Sigma 150-500mm with stabilization, but this lens will get sharper shots with good light, works well for the moon. There is some rainbow effect along straight lines. Buy all thing considered you would spend thousands of dollars for a auto focus, VR lens. I is not hard to set you camera on manual and get good photos.

We bought this lens because we thought it was too good to be true. Its no a $20,000 lens but it gives a good picture. You need to play with the ISO and shutter speed to get a good exposure. It was a bit long for the tripod so we used another tripod for the camera and left the mount for the lens loose so we could get a stable shot. Its worth having for that odd time when you want to go crazy with the super telephoto. We even put 2 x2 in series and got a good shot. The depth of field is narrow and focusing at the max zoom is touchy. With the lens fully extended the focus ring is at arms length.
Overall I am happy with the lens. We ordered this on Feb 5 and it arrive on Feb 8 in Western Australia. The lens is absolutely what i expexted it to be, it need good light, a desent tripod, and a remote control for your camera isn't a bad idea. I have not tried it with the 2x converter it was shipped with, instead i tried it out with an 3x converter, and i am really amazed what you get for the money, have in mind what this lens costs, compared with branded lenses from other fabricants, of course the result is not even close to be compared, but still it's absolutely a bargain for us normal deadly ones to try out extreme lenses without robbing a bank.... -- It's what i expected
